Fish Upstream Passage through Gauging Stations: Experiences with Iberian Barbel in Flat-V Weirs

چکیده

The monitoring of river discharge is vital for the correct management water resources. Flat-V gauging weirs are facilities used worldwide measuring discharge. These structures consist a small weir with triangular cross-section and flat “V”-shaped notch. Their extensive use consequence their utility in measurement both low high flow conditions. However, depending on size, local morphology can act as full or partial hydraulic barriers to fish migration. To address this concern, present work studies passage performance over flat-V considering performance. For this, radio-tracking video-monitoring observations were combined computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models two weirs, using Iberian barbel (Luciobarbus bocagei) target species. Results showed that conditioned by behavioral processes, providing evidence scenarios which may upstream movements. studied range 0.27–8 m3/s, drop difference between downstream levels lower than 0.7 m depth higher 0.3 be considered an effective situation barbels. findings interest quantifying impacts, engineering applications establishing managing retrofitting actions when required.

Investigating the Spatial Relationship between the Upstream Gauging Stations and the Reservoir

Reservoir operation involves many critical decisions due to unpredicted circumstances, such as drought or flood. The reservoir water release decision is one of the challenging tasks for the reservoir operator since the decision to deal with many complicated decision variables and multipurpose operation. Typically, the water that flow into the reservoir comes from the upstream river network. The...

Remotely Gauging Upstream Bufferbloat Delays

“Bufferbloat” is the growth in buffer size that has led Internet delays to occasionally exceed the light propagation delay from the Earth to the Moon. Manufacturers have built in large buffers to prevent losses on Wi-Fi, cable and ADSL links. But the combination of some links’ limited bandwidth with TCP’s tendency to saturate that bandwidth results in excessive queuing delays. In response, new ...

A novel marine bioinvasion vector: Ichthyochory, live passage through fish

Many species of Indo-Pacific holobenthic foraminifera have been introduced and successfully established sustainable populations in the Mediterranean Sea over the past few decades. However, known natural and anthropogenic vectors do not explain how these species were introduced long distances from their origin. We present evidence for a novel marine bioinvasion vector explaining this long-distan...

Phosphorus uptake by Microcystis during passage through fish guts

Herbivorous fish feed on cyanobacteria. Digestability differs, however, between cyanobacteria species without mucous cover and mucilaginous genera such as Microcystis. The latter can pass fish guts almost undamaged, and it has been hypothesized that they can take up nutrients during gut passage. Here we tested whether live Microcystis, as food for juvenile roach labeled with 33P, indeed showed ...

Gauging of Flat Groups in Four Dimensional Supergravity

We show that N = 8 spontaneously broken supergravity in four dimensions obtained by Scherk–Schwarz generalized dimensional reduction can be obtained from a pure four dimensional perspective by gauging a suitable electric subgroup of E7,7. Owing to the fact that there are non isomorphic choices of maximal electric subgroups of the U-duality group their gaugings give rise to inequivalent theories...
